Practice Makes Perfect When It Comes To Timed Writing Exercises
Most standardized tests and many high schools ask for an on-the-spot essay. Students often freeze or draw blanks when asked to address a writing prompt within a specific timeframe. With the clock loudly ticking away, it can be difficult to focus on such elements as thesis statements, topic sentences, paragraph structure, and punctuation.
I work with students on downplaying the terror and accentuating the confidence so that these timed writing exercises become routine.
In addition, I also work with middle and high school students on the elements of craft for research papers, expository assignments and creative non-fiction projects.
